COME, FOLLOW ME

The gentle, quiet calling of the “still, small voice” of the Holy Spirit has been pulling at our minds and hearts for a long time. Now that our lives have reached another turning point---that of active retirement---Judith and I have been engaged in serious discernment through intensive reading and study, prayer and spiritual direction with Marie Juncker about how we might spend the rest of our active years in service to the Lord.

The quest began in earnest last fall at Pastor Anita’s urging and led us to Catholic Volunteer Service, a world-wide clearing house for intentional ministry. After considering short term summer calls to Quito, Ecuador and the Honduras, we eventually applied to Queen of Angels Benedictine Sisters Monastery in Mt. Angel, Oregon, and were accepted for a month this summer.

We will live in community with the sisters under a modified Benedictine rule of “ora et labora,” prayer and work, surrendering our wills to a higher calling, being obedient to Jesus’s calling of “Come Follow Me.”

Peace,
Tom Dunham
